Mairung Gaon or Mayrong forest village, is a small village of Kalimpong. It is located on the way to Duka Valley, just before Tendrabong. It has an altitude of just above 5000ft. This place is nearly 10km away from Algarah. This offbeat place with lush greenery has recently fallen into travelers’ eyes.

Among the few homestays here, Pinecone Retreat Homestay is a good choice. It is run by a humble couple, for a few years. Their hospitality will make you feel at home instantly. Each room’s interior is decorated based on a different theme.

How to reach Mairung Gaon

Mairung Gaon is easily accessible by road. The nearest rail station is New Jalpaiguri and the nearest airport is Bagdogra. The reserved car will take approx 3500 – 4000 INR to reach here. Depending on the season it may vary. If anyone wants to visit here by shared car from NJP, come up to Algarah. From Algarah, the reserved car can be taken to Mairung Gaon at a much lower rate. If coming from Mal bazar side, take the shared car to Lava. From Lava, you can reserve a car to Mairung Gaon

Once you have reached Mairung Gaon, a few tourist spots can be visited from here. Nearest of them are:

Pinecone Retreat homestay has 4 rooms. Each of them can accommodate 4 adults. Staying here will cost 1300 per person per day, including all meals i.e.

    We had booked our vacation with Quick Trails on March ’24 and we had an amazing experience with them. Starting from the booking process with proper communication, planning, reasonable cost till the trip ends they were constantly in touch with us.
    The homestay at Mairung Gaon was really great to spend our vacation amidst nature, hills, snow capped mountain. Hospitality was top notch, food was delicious. A home away home.
    We would love to convey a BIG Thanks to Quick Trails for offering us sucha nice memory. We will definitely plan our next trip with them soon.

    It was a great experience spending holidays planned by Quick trails, starting from pick up till drop , everything was well and good. There had been some minor issues related to the location of the homestays but they were overshadowed by the services, and view from the homestays, food and hospitality shown by the people and the agency itself. Overall we spent beautiful holidays at a reasonable price and had a very good experience.
